Notes:
1. La Jauberte is part of three contiguous structures. One structure is the rental property, another is the caretaker's residence, and the third is the owners' home.
The owners of La Jauberte are an American couple who divide their time between Provence and the United States. The owners are sometimes on the property when the main house is occupied by renters. JUST FRANCE knows the owners personally, and can assure potential renters that they are very pleasant people who do their utmost to assure the comfort and privacy of their tenants. Other than sometimes using the pool, the owners in no way interfere with the renters' enjoyment of La Jauberte, as explained more fully below.
2. Terraced gardens descend from the south side of La Jauberte. At places there are drop-offs of up to two meters (more than 6') between the levels. For this reason La Jauberte is not appropriate for young children.
3. The owners of La Jauberte donate all proceeds from its rental to UNICEF.
La Jauberte is a 17th-century, three-story farmhouse set high on a ridge overlooking the Lubéron Valley. It has been carefully restored to create an atmosphere of Provençal rusticity that blends well with the modern amenities found throughout the tastefully decorated villa. The eight-hectare terrain (about 18 acres), a mixture of grassy and wooded areas, is reachable by a dirt road some 200m (a meter is about a yard) off the main road. Near the house itself, two terrace walls of hand-hewn stone, each 90m long, create a series of alleys and gardens, with spaces for outdoor dining. La Jauberte has a breathtaking view of the Lubéron Mountains and, nestled among them, the nearby town of Viens.
On the garden (lower) level are two bedrooms, one with twin beds and the other with a queen-sized bed, that share a full bath and terrace.
Above, on the main level, are the living-dining room area, kitchen, and terrace; and on the top level, a master bedroom with a king-sized bed, a large full bath with two basins, and a mezzanine with a 140cm (55" across) double bed.
The 5.5m x 11m (about 18' x 36') oval-shaped pool is set on a gentle hillside looking toward Viens. A caretaker who lives next to La Jauberte maintains the pool and also changes the linens weekly at no charge.
Complementing the Provençal ambiance of the house are country antiques, beamed ceilings, stone staircases and stone or tile floors. Both baths are colorfully appointed in old decorative tiles, as is the small but well-equipped kitchen, which has a dishwasher, washing machine, gas stove and electric oven.
The nearest neighbor of La Jauberte is some 500m away, but the charming little village of Viens, where there is a bakery and a small grocery store, is only a seven-minute drive. Apt, a bustling town with many shops and a famous market every Saturday morning, is a 20-minute drive.
As for the relationship between La Jauberte and the owners' residence, the two structures are completely separate and private. Parking and front door access for each house are on opposite sides of the property and most of the windows of both houses face the surrounding countryside. The two houses do share a small herb garden cultivated by the owners. Normally, the only time the renters would see the owners' residence is when they pass by it on the way to the pool, even though the residence is partially obscured by shrubbery.
As for the pool, in the event that the owners are in residence at the property during the rental period, the renters will have exclusive use of the pool, with the understanding that the owners may use it in the renters' absence.
La Jauberte is an excellent value for those looking for a comfortable home in a rural and thoroughly tranquil setting.
